Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama in danger of suspension after Game 4 flagrant foul

Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs looked to tie the best-of-seven series as they visited the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday.

With Wembanyama leading the attack, the Spurs got off to a hot start, erecting a 27-point lead at halftime. They capitalized on the foul trouble of Karl-Anthony Towns, who was whistled for two fouls in the first minute of the contest.

Wembanyama even talked smack to Mitchell Robinson, who could not keep up with the Defensive Player of the Year.

The 22-year-old center, however, may have gotten too aggressive in the third quarter. During a battle for position, Wembanyama's elbow struck Towns' face. After the review, he was assessed a flagrant foul.

It was his third flagrant foul in the playoffs. Another one will merit an automatic suspension under the NBA's rules.

The call will also be reviewed after the game, and the league could sanction Wembanyama right away, although it is highly unlikely.

His flagrant foul on Towns could have been his fourth one. He avoided his third one despite shoving Jalen Brunson in Game 3. The referees deemed it a no-call. Afterward, the NBA admitted that Wembanyama should have been whistled for a personal foul, although the league decided not to upgrade the no-call to a flagrant foul.

Wembanyama's two flagrant fouls happened in the second round against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He should be more cautious moving forward, as the Spurs, obviously, cannot afford to lose him. Normally, he is even-keeled on the floor, but the pressure and the drama of the NBA Finals must be getting to him.
