Newcastle United transfers: Ewen Jaouen has written a heartfelt farewell message to Stade de Reims upon completing his move to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United’s first summer signing Ewen Jaouen admitted he will ‘never forget’ his time at Stade de Reims in a heartfelt message to the club and its supporters.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper completed an £18million move to Newcastle this week with a formal announcement made at Wednesday lunchtime.
For Newcastle, it marks the third time lucky in terms of trying to sign a player from Reims since the takeover. The club tried and failed to sign forward Hugo Ekitike prior to his move to Paris Saint-Germain and also missed out on young midfielder Patrick Zabi in January to Paris FC.
But amid stiff competition for Jaouen, with the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea linked, Newcastle were able to strike a deal.
Ross Wilson on first NUFC summer signing
It marks Ross Wilson’s first major incoming as sporting director at Newcastle following his appointment last year.
“We are delighted to welcome Ewen to Newcastle United,” Wilson said. “This is a signing we have been working hard on for a number of months, and we are really pleased to get it over the line.
“Ewen is a hugely talented young goalkeeper who has gained a lot of admirers across European clubs, and he has an exciting future ahead of him.
“What stood out for us, in all of our discussions, was his ambition, his focus and his determination to be here. We can’t wait to watch him develop and we know our supporters will give him a warm welcome.”
Ewen Jaouen’s goodbye message
Upon the transfer being confirmed, Jaouen took to Instagram to post a goodbye message.
It read: “As my time at the club draws to a close, I wanted to share these few words with you.
“Leaving Brittany for the first time was a significant event. Reims became a second home, and I will never forget how the club, the city, and each and every one of you welcomed me. This experience helped me grow, first as a person, then as a player.
“It's not always easy to find your footing, but here I found an environment that allowed me to progress and develop. After loan spells at Rodez and Dunkirk, for which I have a special thought, Reims will remain a pivotal moment in my journey.
“Together, we went through difficult times, experienced wonderful emotions, and I leave with memories of this season that will be etched in my mind forever.
“Thank you to all the staff, the coaches, and everyone at the club. A very special mention to Thomas, my TT (Team Trainer), thank you for your unwavering support and guidance every day.
“Thank you to the guys for the unique atmosphere in the locker room, and above all, thank you. At Delaune, away from home, you were always there.
“I will always follow Stade de Reims, and I hope the club will return to its rightful place in the top flight as soon as possible.
“I leave with nothing but respect, gratitude, and wonderful memories. The journey is what matters most. And this journey, I will never forget. Thank you, Reims.”
