New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has hit the ground running in the transfer market. The Spaniard stepped into the dugout following Arne Slot's dismissal, and with the club having finished fifth in the Premier League, there is widespread agreement that fresh reinforcements are needed on Merseyside.
Iraola has penned a contract running until the 2027/28 season, a familiar arrangement for the coach, who began his managerial career with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga. Despite it being a relatively short-term deal, Iraola will have his sights firmly fixed on emulating Jurgen Klopp and cementing himself as a Kop legend, though the challenge ahead is considerable.
The Reds splashed over £450million in an attempt to defend their title last summer, bringing in high-profile acquisitions including Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez strengthened their full-back positions, yet Liverpool struggled to recapture the form that had seen them clinch the Premier League title in 2024/25.
Despite an underwhelming campaign overall, Slot did steer the club to Champions League qualification. With Iraola now at the helm, the 46-year-old is ushering Liverpool into a new chapter and may turn to trusted faces to give himself the strongest possible foundation for a successful tenure.
Here we take a look at some of the biggest stories surrounding the Reds over the past 24 hours.

£55m transfer agreement in place
Liverpool are not unduly concerned about the pressing need for a replacement this summer following Ibrahima Konate's departure. It is understood that the Reds may assess their centre-back options during the transfer window, but with numerous other areas requiring attention, young pair Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet have been quietly touted internally.
An additional card up their sleeve is the clause written into Jarell Quansah's deal when he was offloaded to Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old has thrived in his debut season in the Bundesliga and earned a place in Tuchel's 26-man England squad for the World Cup.
Liverpool retain the right to re-sign Quansah for £55m this summer as part of the terms agreed upon his sale, which would represent a £20m shortfall on the fee they received 12 months ago. However, given his homegrown credentials and popularity among supporters, it remains an avenue that Iraola and Liverpool could explore towards the latter stages of the window.

Quansah disclosed in April that his decision to leave was driven by the desire for regular first-team football, which could pave the way for a return should Liverpool be able to guarantee him sufficient playing time. "To be honest, I wouldn't say it was the hardest decision because I just wanted to play," he said.
"I felt like I could play at the top level, the Bundesliga's a top league and being able to play in the Champions League and play top games. I think you just have maybe a gut feeling. Sometimes you can't think about it too much and listen to too many people to be honest, because you can listen to a few things and get persuaded."
The England centre-half has already agreed personal terms on an Anfield contract, should the Reds decide to exercise their option. That will come as a considerable relief to Liverpool's recruitment team, who would be able to finalise a deal within the coming weeks should additional defensive cover be required.

Iraola eyes raid on Bournemouth
One of the names emerging on Iraola's shortlist is Bournemouth's standout performer Alex Scott, who has flourished under his stewardship. Earlier this week, talkSPORT reported on links between Liverpool and the 23-year-old, with 'noise growing' around his future.
Chelsea and Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the highly-rated midfielder. The Cherries are unwilling to part with him, however, and have placed an eye-watering £80 million price tag on his head in a bid to deter potential suitors.
The South Coast club have developed a reputation for selling their brightest talents for sizeable profits, including Dean Huijsen, Ilya Zabarnyi, Kerkez and Antoine Semenyo. Scott could be the next prominent figure to seek a new challenge as he targets a place in Thomas Tuchel's England squad.

Iraola is a keen admirer of the box-to-box midfielder, and that sentiment appears to be reciprocated. When questioned about Iraola's appointment last week, Scott said: "I think the way we press out of possession is very aggressive, maybe similar to the early Klopp teams Liverpool had, that fierce aggressiveness and pressing with the wingers. I would say he is similar to that. Liverpool fans should definitely be so excited."
Whether Bournemouth's £80m valuation places Scott beyond Liverpool's reach remains to be seen, though relations between the two clubs are understood to be on solid ground. Sporting director Richard Hughes previously held a position at the Vitality Stadium prior to joining Liverpool, and was a key figure in securing both Iraola and Kerkez during last summer's transfer window.
