‘No-brainer’: Man Utd urged by former Red to complete deal for ‘incredible’ free agent, it’d be a ‘win-win’

Manchester United have been urged to complete a shock move for Robert Lewandowski following his Barcelona release.

The 37-year-old is a free agent this summer after agreeing it was the right time to pull the curtains on his Barça tenure last month.

How has Lewandowski been linked with United?

Now, former Red Giuseppe Rossi has encouraged United to try and sanction a deal for the Polish international, saying: “Robert Lewandowski to Man United? Yeah, why not?

“Of course, Lewandowski would be an incredible asset for the young players, providing his experience and big-game knowledge.

“With Benjamin Sesko being a young, growing player, having someone like Lewandowski on the team would only benefit him. It’s a no-brainer. He has a huge resume, and on a short-term deal, it’s a win-win.”

Would Lewandowski even be considered a suitable fit in M16?

While you can understand where he’s coming from, given Lewandowski has undoubtedly been one of the most prolific goalscorers in world football consistently for the last decade, it does seem like more of a transfer that the old United would complete.

Club Appearances Goals Assists

Bayern Munich 375 344 73

Barcelona 193 120 24

Borussia Dortmund 187 103 42

Lech Poznan 82 41 19

Lewandowski’s senior career record

The likes of Edinson Cavani, Odion Ighalo and Wout Weghorst spring to mind when you recall some of the stop-gap striker additions that United have made in recent years, all of whom were well past their prime by the time they arrived at Old Trafford.

Although he would presumably do a job leading the line – albeit he’s never tested himself in the Premier League – Lewandowski would fall into that category of ageing attackers, and transfer dealings since INEOS took the reins would suggest they’re past targeting that kind of player.

In fact, the co-owners are yet to bring in a signing over 30 years of age, showing just how integral it is for them to plan for the long-term, rather than just to bridge a gap.
