Sunderland have been credited with interest in three players as a fresh Liverpool transfer stance emerges.
Sunderland continue to be linked with attacking reinforcements this summer, while there are also fresh claims around Lutsharel Geertruida, Mariano Troilo and former Black Cats winger Jack Diamond.
Here, we take you through everything transfer-related that you may have missed over the past couple of days:
Sunderland linked with exciting young winger
Sunderland are reportedly among the clubs keeping tabs on Kerim Alajbegović after an eye-catching season for club and country. The 18-year-old winger spent the 2025-26 campaign with Red Bull Salzburg, where he made 44 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and registering four assists.
He has also caught the eye at international level with Bosnia, contributing in their successful World Cup push and further enhancing his reputation as one of the more intriguing young attacking talents on the market. Bayer Leverkusen have re-signed the teenager, but his long-term future is said to remain uncertain amid growing interest from elsewhere. Leeds United have previously been linked, while Bosnia great Miralem Pjanić is understood to have been involved in exploring possible options in Italy.
Now Sunderland have been credited with interest, although the strongest current push appears to be coming from Roma. Reports in Italy claim the Serie A side have made contact with Leverkusen over a permanent transfer, with a bid worth around €30million - roughly £25.9million - said to have been discussed.
Alajbegović is claimed to be open to a move to Italy, but Leverkusen are yet to respond and Sunderland’s interest has not been ruled out at this stage. The Black Cats are said to be among the English clubs furthest ahead in monitoring the situation, though any deal would clearly be ambitious given the level of competition and the fee involved.
Liverpool stance could boost Geertruida hopes
Sunderland have also been handed a potential boost in their hopes of keeping Geertruida, with Liverpool no longer thought to be pursuing the Netherlands international.
Geertruida joined Sunderland on loan from RB Leipzig in September 2025 and became an important part of Régis Le Bris’ squad, featuring 30 times and playing 1,865 minutes across the campaign. Liverpool had considered a move during the January window, at a time when Conor Bradley was injured and Jeremie Frimpong’s fitness issues forced them to assess right-back options.
The Anfield club were said to have looked at Geertruida and Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, although no deal was completed before the window closed. At that point, Arne Slot was still in charge and Geertruida was claimed to have agreed personal terms with Liverpool.
However, Slot’s exit and the arrival of Andoni Iraola have changed the picture. According to Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof, Geertruida currently has no contact with Liverpool, which could strengthen Sunderland’s hand if they decide to pursue a permanent deal.
Feyenoord had also been mentioned as a possible destination, but that route is now said to be less likely following Robin van Persie’s departure. Sunderland are still believed to be keen on keeping Geertruida beyond his loan spell, though the defender is currently focused on the World Cup and any transfer decision may have to wait. Geertruida remains under contract at RB Leipzig until 2029 and is valued by Transfermarkt at around €20million - approximately £17.2million.
Fulham threaten Sunderland in defender chase
Elsewhere, Sunderland may face increased competition for Mariano Troilo, with Fulham reportedly ready to push ahead for the Parma centre-back.
The Argentine defender enjoyed a strong second half of the season in Serie A after stepping up following Giovanni Leoni’s departure. He made 23 appearances in all competitions and further raised his profile by scoring Parma’s winning goal against AC Milan at the San Siro.
Sunderland were credited with interest in May and are said to have contacted the player’s entourage, but Fulham now appear to be moving more aggressively. Reports in Italy claim the London club are preparing an offer worth €20million - around £17.2million - although Parma are not thought to be under immediate pressure to sell.
That may leave Sunderland with a decision to make over whether to formalise their interest. Parma signed Troilo for around €7million - close to £6million - in 2025, meaning a sale this summer would already represent a significant profit. The Italian club are understood to be hoping more English clubs enter the race, which could drive the price higher.
Former Sunderland winger attracting interest
Former Sunderland winger Jack Diamond is also attracting interest after an impressive spell with Stockport County. Portsmouth and Lincoln City are both said to be watching the 26-year-old, who has developed into one of League One’s more productive wide players. Diamond registered 15 goal involvements during the 2025-26 season and could now be offered another move this summer.
Diamond came through Sunderland’s academy and made senior appearances for the Black Cats before leaving permanently. His form at Stockport has now put him back on the radar of Championship and League One clubs ahead of the new campaign.
