Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella could be on the move this summer after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that an exit from Stamford Bridge remains a genuine possibility amid growing interest from Spain.
The Italy-based journalist has revealed that while Chelsea are not actively looking to sell the Spain international, the door could open if a suitable offer arrives that satisfies both the club and the player. Romano added that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are among the clubs monitoring the situation as the summer transfer window gathers pace.
Speaking on his latest transfer update, Romano stated that patience is required as discussions remain at an early stage, but stressed that a departure “remains open” should the right proposal emerge.
CHELSEA are understood to be in a strong negotiating position and are under no pressure to cash in on the defender: “Chelsea are not under pressure to sell and remain fully in control of the situation. A strong offer would be required to open the door to a transfer.
“There is significant interest in Cucurella from Spain and the feeling is that a move back to his home country would be the most likely outcome if he decides to leave Chelsea.
“This could include developments involving FC Barcelona, although nothing is advanced at this stage. The presence of Alejandro Balde means there is currently no active move.
“Meanwhile, Atletico de Madrid have always admired Cucurella. Key figures within the club have long been fans of the player and he remains on their radar. Once again, any potential move would depend on the right proposal arriving for both Chelsea and the player.”
Chelsea are believed to value Cucurella in the region of €40 million to €50 million, meaning any interested club would need to make a significant financial commitment before negotiations could progress. The Blues would also need to consider potential replacements should the Spaniard depart.
Since joining Chelsea from Brighton in 2022, Cucurella has experienced mixed fortunes in west London. While he has established himself as a regular first-team option, his performances have often divided opinion among supporters.
Nevertheless, his experience and versatility continue to attract interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
For now, no formal bids have been submitted and CHELSEA remain in control of the situation. However, Romano’s latest update has ensured that speculation surrounding Cucurella’s future will remain one of the key storylines to watch as the transfer window unfolds
