Chelsea supporters have delivered a mixed verdict on reports linking Liverpool defender Jeremie Frimpong with a shock move to Stamford Bridge and a reunion with new head coach Xabi Alonso.
The speculation emerged after former Spain international Gaizka Mendieta suggested Frimpong could be an ideal signing for Chelsea, given his successful spell under Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.
The comments quickly sparked debate across social media, with CHELSEA fans divided over whether the Dutch international would be the right fit for the club’s latest rebuild.
Many supporters welcomed the possibility of Alonso bringing in a player he knows and trusts: One fan wrote: “If Alonso wants Frimpong, I’m all for it. He was one of the best wing-backs in Europe under him at Leverkusen.”
Another posted: “This is exactly the type of signing Chelsea should be making. Young, experienced and already understands the manager’s system.”
A third supporter added: “Frimpong and Alonso together again? That sounds like a transfer that actually makes sense.”
Others highlighted the defender’s attacking qualities: “Frimpong would transform our right side. His pace and end product are elite,” one fan commented.
Another wrote: “People forget how good he was before moving to Liverpool. Alonso knows how to get the best out of him.”
However, not everyone was convinced: Some supporters questioned whether Chelsea should prioritise other positions during the summer transfer window.
One sceptical fan posted: “We need a striker and centre-back before another wing-back. This shouldn’t be a priority.”
Another commented: “Good player, but do we really need Frimpong? There are bigger issues in the squad.”
Several fans also raised concerns about the financial implications of any deal: “Liverpool would want a huge fee. I’d rather spend that money elsewhere,” read one post.
Another supporter wrote: “No doubt he’s talented, but CHELSEA can’t keep buying players without solving the balance of the squad.”
Despite the differing opinions, there was widespread agreement that Alonso’s arrival has generated renewed excitement among the fanbase.
“Whether it’s Frimpong or someone else, I trust Alonso’s judgement,” one supporter wrote.
Another added: “For the first time in a while, it feels like there’s a clear football plan at Chelsea.”
As transfer rumours continue to gather pace, the reaction online suggests Frimpong would be one of the most hotly debated signings of the summer.
While many Chelsea fans are enthusiastic about the prospect of an Alonso-Frimpong reunion, others remain cautious, ensuring the discussion is likely to continue throughout the transfer window.
