Alexis Mac Allister enters the final two years of his contract this summer and clubs are beginning to assess a transfer, with Liverpool set for a big decision.
Unlike Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, Mac Allister has not entered negotiations to extend a contract which expires in 2028.
It appears as though the Argentine’s situation at the club is starkly different to his fellow midfielders, as at 27 he looks increasingly likely to head for the exit.
Whether that happens this summer remains to be seen, but transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claims clubs are “starting to look at” the possibility of a deal.

“Mac Allister’s situation could be interesting this summer, in case of good proposals for Liverpool and for the player,” Romano explained on YouTube.
“I would not rule out changes in midfield for Liverpool.
“This obviously doesn’t mean Mac Allister is 100 percent leaving, this doesn’t mean that Mac Allister is out of Liverpool’s project. I’m not saying this.
“I am saying that in case of a good proposal for the club and for the player, the situation of Mac Allister could eventually develop during the summer transfer window.
“This could be a topic. It’s not guaranteed, it’s not close, it’s not advanced, but it could be a topic.”

In many ways it is similar to the landscape around Cody Gakpo‘s future, with the winger also subject of interest this summer but not certain to leave Liverpool.
However it suggests the club would be open to offers for both Mac Allister and Gakpo as they are among the oldest players in the squad and still have resale value.
Liverpool are expected to strengthen in both midfield and attack this summer and those two players are arguably most at risk of losing their starting spot in the event of any major arrivals.
If, for example, a deal was executed for Crystal Palace‘s Adam Wharton, it is likely he would supplant Mac Allister in Andoni Iraola‘s lineup alongside two of Gravenberch, Szoboszlai and possibly Florian Wirtz.

Speaking towards the end of the season, Mac Allister’s father and agent, Carlos, told WinWin that talks were not underway with any new clubs “so far.”
“Alexis has a valid contract until June 2028 and so far we are not speaking publicly with any other club,” Mac Allister Sr. explained.
“We believe that the club’s fans deserve this level of respect from the player.
“And so far the club has not negotiated with us to renew the contract.”
With the domestic season now over, however, talks could take place against the backdrop of Argentina’s World Cup campaign.
