Questions are growing over Alexis Mac Allister’s future at Liverpool, with the midfielder said to be attracting interest from elsewhere this summer.

Mac Allister will be one of eight Liverpool players in action at the World Cup over the next few weeks, and the Argentina international will be aiming to put a disappointing season at Anfield behind him as his country looks to defend its crown.

Although he was far from the only player to underperform for the Reds, Mac Allister did find himself coming under increasing scrutiny as the campaign wore on, and that has led to speculation over his future.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old could leave Liverpool this summer if the right offer comes along, with “clubs starting to look at the situation”.

He describes the midfielder's position as "interesting", and suggests there could be changes made in Liverpool's midfield.

An exit is not certain by any means, although Romano does hint that a "good proposal" for both the player and Liverpool might convince both of a move.

Romano’s claims come just a week after Mac Allister’s father Carlos, who also acts as his son’s agent, played down rumors of a move to Real Madrid.

Speaking to Erem News, via AS, he said: "What has been circulating about Alexis is false. No one from Real Madrid has spoken to us so far. There is no new information about Alexis' current situation at Liverpool."

Nevertheless, Mac Allister’s future has become a major topic of conversation following a disappointing personal season for the player. A new midfielder has been touted as one of Liverpool’s priorities during the transfer window, which could call his position into further doubt.

As well as Real Madrid, the former Brighton star has been linked with a sensational move to Manchester United, although those rumors were shot down pretty quickly.

Mac Allister has two years remaining on his contract still, although his father revealed earlier this year that there have been no developments on a potential extension.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

"There are no negotiations with Liverpool to renew the contract," Carlos told WinWin in March.

"Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment. We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club's plan is."

Liverpool.com says: Although he did endure a disappointing season, it wouldn’t be a wise move from Liverpool to sell Mac Allister this summer - especially if Curtis Jones might be heading out the exit door.

Fingers crossed Mac Allister can rediscover some form during the World Cup, and then get back to his best under Andoni Iraola next season.
