Harry Maguire has been handed a £1,000 fine after being found guilty of speeding
Manchester United player Harry Maguire has been handed a £1,000 fine as two other teammates are also prosecuted for speeding.
The 33-year-old centre-back, who was recently left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man England World Cup squad, was caught driving his £130,000 Range Rover at 37mph in a 30mph zone in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.
The offence happened in December 2025, as he travelled between Old Trafford and his Cheshire home.
The former England regular, who received a 56-day road ban in January 2025 for previous speeding offences, pleaded guilty in writing and was sentenced at Tameside Magistrates’ Court.
Maguire, who said he had been "left shocked and gutted" at being left out of the England Squad, also received three penalty points, and must pay £120 in costs and a £400 victim surcharge.
Maguire apologised to the court and said “I was driving at 37mph in what I mistakenly believed was a 40mph zone, when it was in fact a 30mph limit.
"I understand this was my responsibility and I fully accept the offence. I will be more careful in future and pay closer attention to speed limit signs.”
At the same time, United reserve goalkeeper 28-year-old Altay Bayindir was also fined after admitting to driving a Mercedes at 41mph in a 30mph limit in Hale Barns, shortly after a Premier League defeat to Everton.
Bayindir, who has been called up for Turkey’s World Cup campaign, was fined £666 with three penalty points, £120 costs and a £266 victim surcharge.
The third Manchester United star to find himself in legal difficulties is Matheus Cunha, who has been charged with speeding and failing to respond to police letters asking him to identify the driver of the vehicle.
Court papers showed the Mercedes was registered in the name of the Brazilian striker and was clocked at 37mph, on the same stretch of Hale Road where Bayindir was caught speeding.
The offence is alleged to have happened following United’s opening-day defeat to Arsenal.
Cunha, who is part of Brazil’s World Cup squad, has yet to enter a plea and will be required to attend a hearing in December, where disqualification from driving will be considered at Bolton Magistrates' Court.
All three United stars were spared having to attend court last week as their cases were handled in private, with a single magistrate taking decisions based on the written evidence.
