Liverpool 'make progress' in talks to sign 'explosive' star, FSG confident he wants to join -…

Liverpool have "made progress" in talks with Yan Diomande's representatives over a summer move to Anfield, GIVEMESPORT understands.

The Reds will be active in the summer transfer window with a new manager at the helm after Andoni Iraola replaced the sacked Arne Slot at the end of May.

At least one attacking player in wide areas will be imperative, with Mohamed Salah having left the club following the early termination of his contract. There are also question marks over the futures of Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo, with neither certain to remain in the north west.

Iraola will have his own thoughts on who to bring in, but even before the Spaniard arrived at the club, Liverpool have been heavily linked with signing Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.

Diomande has had an impressive season in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals and providing 9 assists in 33 league appearances.

At just 19 years of age he has plenty of time to improve significantly too, and with a contract in Germany until 2030, it is no surprise that Leipzig have put a figure of at least €100million (£87million) on his shoulders.

The German side are trying to negotiate a new deal, to get him to stay at the Red Bull Arena, but with the teenager away on international duty at the World Cup, any hopes of that happening have been put on the backburner.

And Liverpool believe they can swoop to get a deal done, speaking to his representatives over a move to Anfield.

GMS senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs joked on our Market Madness podcast that "Leipzig seem to be adding about a million a day" to the price tag, but also stated that the Reds are not going to be deterred from getting a deal done.

He said: "He's at the Ivory Coast training camp, so perhaps we're going to get a slight lull here, but Liverpool would like to get this one done quickly.

"The asking price is now above €100million, Leipzig seem to be adding about a million a day, and the reason why they're doing that is because they want an answer first from Diomande, and until they get an answer as to whether he's going to sign a new deal, the Leipzig intent is to keep the price as high as possible to basically buy time and stagnate a deal, and then as soon as Diamande says either he's staying or he's going, Leipzig will either settle his future and there'll be no move this summer, or at the opposite extreme, they'll realise the player wants to go, and then the overall package will likely come down at least a little bit.

"Red Bull clubs are never easy to work with, Liverpool have got a great relationship, though, with the agency of Diomande and also Leipzig too. So they're one of the leading contenders, and I would say that Diomande is Liverpool's top choice, the number one choice and they've made progress on the player side, so they're relatively optimistic within Liverpool that Diomande would like to join, even though the player did an interview, I think, only a few weeks ago, where he spoke of his love for PSG."

Diomande is a self-confessed "explosive" winger. Speaking to the Bundesliga website earlier this season he said: "My style is explosive, fast, and physically strong. Quick, agile, and also a finisher. I know I am not yet a perfect finisher, but I am only 19. With time, it will come – and I will become a killer in front of goal.”
