Despite the transfer window not opening until the 15 of June for Premier League clubs, Liverpool have already seen a few targets slipping through the cracks including to Bayer Leverkusen.

Tottenham have completed the signing of Marcos Senesi, with the former Bournemouth defender looking like an ideal option on paper to reinforce the squad at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the Reds will not have a clear run at Adam Wharton, with Manchester United having held talks with the 22-year-old in recent weeks.

But while the club also focuses on bolstering its academy ranks, one teenager will not be joining the club.

Bayer Leverkusen have officially announced the signing of 16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn from Hertha Berlin this week, winning a heated race for one of Europe’s most coveted teenage midfielders after he rejected a move to Liverpool.

It’s believed the teenager wanted to stay and progress his potential in his native Germany. RB Leipzig also tried until the end but it is now Leverkusen who have pulled off the coup.

“We are very happy we were able to convince Kennet Eichhorn of our approach. We were already in close contact with Kennet and his family a year ago, and even back then we formed a good bond,” said Bayer 04 Managing Director Sport Simon Rolfes.

“That was also always evident in this year’s talks. Kennet shares our view that Bayer 04 offers the best conditions for him to develop into an absolute top player in the Bundesliga. The talks with our head coach Carles Martínez were also characterised by great agreement on footballing issues and mutual trust,” said Rolfes. “With Kennet, we now have one of the best German talents in our ranks.”

The youngster was said to have a release clause valued at between €10-12m, with his deal at Hertha Berlin running until 2029. It now appears that Leverkusen have activated it and will welcome a talent that had Europe’s elite all clamouring for him.
