As if the San Antonio Spurs’ historic collapse against the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the NBA Finals wasn’t bad enough for center Victor Wembanyama, he also had to deal with unruly Knicks fans after the contest.
Wembanyama and the Spurs allowed the Knicks to mount the largest comeback in NBA Finals history on Wednesday night, giving up a 29-point lead en route to falling behind 3-1 in the series.
After the game, Knicks fans showed up outside of the Spurs’ hotel to rub the victory in just a little bit more, but that also led to some inexcusable behavior.
As Wembanyama walked off the team bus and into the hotel, eggs were hurled at him and one hit the Spurs center in the head.
Wembanyama has no doubt put himself at or near the top of the list of villains with Knicks fans in this series, but he does not deserve what happened here.

This is just an ugly look for Knicks fans, who started off this series endearing themselves to the viewing public before souring things.
Along with throwing the egg at Wemby, Knicks fans attacked Spurs fans after the Game 3 loss on Monday night.

It was so bad that players on both the Knicks and Spurs condemned the actions, including Wembanyama, as did actor and diehard Knicks fan Ben Stiller and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“I didn’t know that. My thoughts, of course, is that, I mean, we can’t forget it’s a game. We’re just playing a game out there. And I am all for passion, but to the respect of each other. It’s unacceptable,” Wembanyama said.

“Being a Knick fan doesn’t mean being disrespectful to Spurs fans in any way,” Stiller said. “We get caught up during the games but we gotta show respect to our fellow humans.”
Attacking somebody because they root for a different team is unacceptable and we can only hope those who do such things face legal consequences.
How Knicks pulled off historic comeback

The Spurs were unconscious over the first two quarters, with San Antonio seemingly drilling every shot en route to staking itself to a lead as big as 29 points.
It looked like we were heading to a 2-2 series tie going back to San Antonio for Game 5, but the Knicks slowly started waking up in the third quarter before finishing off their comeback during the fourth.
Through it all, the Spurs were just chucking up and missing three-pointers and head coach Mitch Johnson made zero adjustments to stop the bleeding.

The result was the Knicks pulling off the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history that was capped off by an OG Anunoby tip-in off a Jalen Brunson miss and a Karl-Anthony Towns deflection on the Spurs’ in-bound during the final play of the contest.
Now, instead of the Spurs hopping back into the driver’s seat with a win, they are facing the steepest of mountains down 3-1 going into Saturday night.
