Mo Salah “very keen” on Fenerbahce transfer – £500,000-a-week contract claim

Mo Salah‘s future is subject of bold claims, with Fenerbahce’s departed executive Ertan Torunogullari claiming a deal was in place with the Egyptian “very keen.”

Salah is yet to announce his next club, but the 33-year-old is unlikely to be short of offers as he prepares to make a big decision.

Having left Liverpool following the breakdown of his relationship with Arne Slot, the winger is now left to find the next stop in his decorated career.

According to Torunogullari – who held a key role at Fenerbahce until last week under previous president Sadettin Saran – Salah was “very keen” on joining having agreed his salary.

“He was very keen on coming to Turkey. The meetings we had were extremely positive,” he told Fotospor.

“We had established common ground with him on many issues, including his salary.

“I believe that if the new management makes such a request, Salah will wear the Fenerbahce jersey.

“We would be happy to work with the new management on the negotiations.”

It is not the first time Salah’s future has been the subject of speculation in Turkey, of course, but Torunogullari’s comments are certainly interesting.

Whether there is a political element remains to be seen, but the official’s claim that he would be willing to assist the new regime at Fenerbahce if they wish to pursue a deal appears to add credibility.

Much will likely depend on the finances involved in any agreement, with Salah terminating a deal worth up to £480,000 a week to leave Liverpool early.

During his successful presidential campaign, Aziz Yildrim claimed he would be willing to finance a three-year contract worth €30 million a season – or just shy of £500,000 a week before tax.

Who is the highest paid player in Turkish football?

The current highest-paid player in Turkey is Victor Osimhen, who earns a basic €15 million a season – £250,000 a week – at Galatasaray, while Fenerbahce covered Jhon Duran’s €19 million (£315,000 a week) salary while on loan from Al-Nassr last season.

Salah has already been touted with moves to MLS and the Saudi Pro League, and the Turkish Super Lig is on a similar level in terms of the standard of football while offering European competition.

It is not out of the realms of possibility that he would choose a move to Turkey over the United States or Saudi Arabia if it allows him to maintain his competitive edge on the continent.

Salah has also been touted with a return to Serie A, where he spent two-and-a-half seasons with Fiorentina and AS Roma; a move to another Premier League club, meanwhile, seems out of the question.
