Over the summer, Liverpool has set about on an ambitious project. It is creating a list of the 100 greatest players in the club's long and storied history.
The criteria have been defined as ability, impact, legacy, and success. Votes were cast by fans, former players, journalists, and a club panel, 13 years after Liverpool last compiled such a ranking.
Many of the big hitters from the 2013 list are sure to have maintained their lofty positions: Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish took the top two spots back then, and it would be a shock if that had changed. But Mohamed Salah certainly has a claim to be in and around that territory, so it will be fascinating to see where he ends up as a first-time entrant to the rankings.
We'll have to wait a little while to discover that, with Liverpool working back from 100 day by day. So far, the top 31 spots have been revealed: 70-100.
Even these spots undoubtedly mark a highly prestigious piece of recognition. Liverpool is the most successful club in England, and almost 900 players have made a competitive appearance over the years.
Some notable current players have been named among this cream of the crop. Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister sneaked in at 99 and 100, respectively, with Curtis Jones slightly higher at 93.

To achieve such plaudits while still an active player is highly impressive, although all of them will hope to move further up the rankings by the time their Anfield careers are over.
Time will tell whether that comes sooner rather than later for Jones, who is the subject of transfer interest this summer.
Liverpool's recent past is also extensively represented on the list so far. Joel Matip is among the best-ranked so far, up in 72nd (although this writer humbly submits he deserves to be even higher).
There's also Luis Diaz at 76, Philippe Coutinho at 87, and Adam Lallana at 95. All three were notable parts of the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool.
Going back a little further, many of Rafa Benitez's stars have made the cut as well. Dietmar Hamann, Luis Garcia, Vladimir Smicer and Jerzy Dudek were all a part of the Miracle of Istanbul, almost enough on its own to secure a place on the list.

Meanwhile, there is recognition for some greats of the more distant past. Liverpool broke the transfer record for Albert Stubbins in 1946, paying $16,700 (£12,500), and his subsequent 75 league goals were enough to earn him 70th place on the list.
With so many incredible players chosen already, it will be fascinating to see who is named to the higher spots. Read the complete list so far and see if you agree with the selections:
