Manchester United have officially announced that Jadon Sancho will leave the club as a free agent. This will occur after the expiry of his contract. The English winger had arrived at Old Trafford with huge expectations. But he will leave after an unstable period as he failed to match the brilliant form which gave him recognition in Bundesliga.
Manchester United tenure of Jadon Sancho ends here
As reported by Manchester United’s official website, the club has communicated its retained players’ list to the Premier League for the next season. The list signifies that the chapters of many well-known football players will end in Manchester. Jadon Sancho’s name is in the list of the players who will depart from the club.
The 26-year-old’s exit states the end of a story of a big money transfer move. The price for the winger that the Red Devils paid to Borussia Dortmund was €85m, including add-ons, according to Transfermarkt. This move proved to be a disaster as Sancho could not find his form at United in all these years. Alongside him, Tyrell Malacia and Casemiro will also leave as free agents. The club has released a statement which says, “Everyone at the club would like to thank Casemiro, Tyrell, and Jadon for their contributions to Manchester United and wish them the very best of luck for the future.”

Is Sancho the most disappointing signing for Man United?
Back in January 2024, Sancho had some disagreements with the previous management at the club, as reported by BBC. After this bitter moment, he was found to be sent to Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan in that season. After coming back to United, the forward could not make his mark in the first team. Therefore, he went to Chelsea on loan in July 2024. Consecutively, he moved on another season-long loan to Aston Villa in July 2025.
As reported by Goal, Sancho’s tenure at Old Trafford has been slammed by ex-Man United player, Louis Saha. He has described the Englishman as “the most disappointing signing in Manchester United history”. The former French player has been bewildered about Sancho’s failure to shine in Premier League. He said, “The level he had shown at Borussia Dortmund before joining, he showed so much promise because he is an enormous talent. It felt like a mystery.”
Saha was disappointed about the chances that the winger missed on the field during his time at United. He really wished to see Sancho thrive in Manchester. The Frenchman concluded by saying that the 26-year-old can do amazing things but he has wasted his opportunities in the matches.
Can we see a Dortmund and Sancho reunion next season?
In spite of going through a struggling phase in England, Sancho is still a respected figure in Germany. His brilliant form at Borussia Dortmund before joining the Red Devils in 2021, has earned him this recognition. As reported by Football 365, Borussia Dortmund is interested to take Sancho back but former Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew has said something else.
Dortmund’s coach Niko Kovac has given the green light to proceed with a deal with Jadon Sancho. A third tenure with the German club may turn around his career. This may increase his chances to represent England which he could not since 2021. But Alan Pardew predicts that Sancho will join a mid-table Premier League club. He has highlighted Crystal Palace as his preferred destination.
