What makes praising Knicks’ Jose Alvarado tough for Karl-Anthony Towns

The New York Knicks have the best Finals win in NBA history, coming back down from 29 points to defeat the San Antonio Spurs and take a 3-1 lead in the series. A lot of people may have thought that the game was over in the first half, but the Knicks kept fighting until the final buzzer.

There were a lot of key plays in the fourth quarter, but Jose Alvarado played an important part in the comeback. Mike Brown elected to keep him in the game alongside Jalen Brunson for more ball-handling, and it worked to perfection. On defense, Alvarado was himself, getting scrappy and making it hard for the Spurs to get anything easy.

After the game, Karl-Anthony Towns was asked what makes Alvarado special, and he had to make a joke first before anything.

“I mean, it's tough for me to be a Dominican talking about a Puerto Rican like this,” Towns said.

“I knew that was coming,” Alvarado said.

Towns then really went into what he thought about Alvarado and who he is as a player.

“Man, when you talk about somebody who not only lives up to the moment but plays with his emotion, and utilizes that to his advantage, that's a rare quality,” Towns said. “A lot of times, you play with a lot of people and they play with emotion but it gets the better of them. And for Jose, that emotion is what drives him and makes him take it to another level.

“He has so much to his basketball game that people don't give credit to, and I'm glad at this stage on a night like this, he was able to show the world what he can do when he's given a chance. And Jose Alvarado clearly told everyone in the world tonight he's a big-time player.”
