Mike Vrabel had a difficult offseason period after the 2025 NFL season. He was quite successful with the New England Patriots, making them the AFC Champions and being Super Bowl runners up.
However, controversy took over his career after he was exposed with former The Athletic reporter Dianna Russini. Headlines surrounding him alleged that he was in an affair with the reporter. He has finally sent out a strong statement after months of the rumor.
Mike Vrabel and wife Jen share first public family photo after Russini scandal
Vrabel and Russini were caught in a scandal in early April 2026 after Page Six published photos of them together. The two were seen holding hands, hugging, and spending time together at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona. Subsequent images released showed them together in various instances since 2020. Both of them are married to other people with children as well.

Despite allegations of their affair, they have denied so. While Russini resigned from The Athletic, Vrabel will stay on as the Patriots’ head coach. He has addressed the situation previously in a press conference during May 2026, where he expressed love for his wife Jen Vrabel and their sons Carter and Tyler. Though it seemed that things were not well in their family with no one speaking out.
Recently, the family were seen reunited once more during Tyler’s engagement celebration. The new daughter-in-law Mariah Romano shared an image of the family on her Instagram. It was the first time Vrabel and his wife were seen together publicly since the scandal. Both of them were full of smiles and seemed happy.
The pair had first gotten married in 1999 and have been together as Vrabel advanced in his career over the years. While the scandal with Russini threatened to break their relation, it appears the two will be together.
Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini investigation ongoing
After the alleged affair between them was revealed, the New York Times launced an internal investigation into Vrabel and Russini. The organization owns The Athletic, where the reporter used to work. However, despite the passage of two months, it is still not complete. According to Page Six, several New York Times editors have described the delay as “embarrassing” for the newsroom.
Executive editor Steven Ginsberg recently addressed the staff last week, where he stated that their review will take “a few more weeks” due to the volume of material that needs careful examination. He also noted that they will issue corrections if necessary during or after the process. Any such investigation could carry much complications for both Vrabel and Russini.
It remains to be seen what new developments occur in the case of Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini.
