Knicks had unsung hero in historic Game 4 NBA Finals comeback

The Knicks made NBA history on Tuesday night. Both teams entered Game 4 with a chip on their shoulders. The Spurs could not afford to fall down to 3-1 in the series, while the Knicks were looking to respond after dropping Game 3 at home. Early on, it looked like the momentum had shifted in the series, and the Spurs had all the answers.

Spurs Dominate Early

The Spurs were on fire in the first half; it seemed as though the Spurs hoop was a lot bigger than the Knicks. San Antonio knocked down 14 out of their 24 three-point shot attempts in the first half and built a huge 76-49 lead.

The lead eventually grew to 33 points early into the third, until the Knicks had a mini-resurgence, going on a 14-0 run. Still heading into the fourth, the Spurs still held a 15-point lead. It looked like the series was headed back to San Antonio, tied at 2-2.

Wembanyama continued to make life difficult for Karl-Anthony Towns. Wembanyama was all over towns, but KAT finally broke through, scoring his first fourth-quarter points of the series and finishing with seven points in the quarter.

KAT ended the game with 13 points and a team high of 10 rebounds.

New York Flips the Script

The Knicks emerged from the dust. New York and San Antonio opened the second half with a stagnant back-and-forth, but something was different; the momentum inside Madison Square Garden had shifted. The atmosphere had an immense impact; it was like New York had a 6th player on the court.

OG Anunoby continued his hot play from game 3 into game 4, knocking down seven threes and finishing with 33 points, on 10-15 shooting.

Brunson Delivers, Anunoby Finishes

The Spurs have spent the entire series throwing every defense at Jalen Brunson. It looked like they had him figured out, but he made it very clear that he’s inevitable. Brunson finished with 36 points and scored 9 in the fourth, repeatedly answering when the team needed. The Knicks put together a 20-4 run to erase the deficit and take the lead.

With the game on the line, Anunoby delivered the biggest play of the night. He tipped in the game-winner with 1.4 seconds left, and the Knicks went on to win 107-106. The win marked the largest comeback in NBA Finals history and completely changed the outlook of the series. The Knicks now hold a commanding 3-1 series lead and sit just one win away from their first NBA championship since 1973.
