Knicks Dethrone Celtics With Historic NBA Finals Comeback Vs. Spurs

For nearly two decades, the Boston Celtics held the record for the largest comeback in an NBA Finals game.

However, that record no longer belongs to them after Wednesday night.

The New York Knicks erased a 29-point deficit in Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals, storming back to beat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 at Madison Square Garden. After trailing 71-42 at one point, the Knicks won on OG Anunoby's go-ahead 2-pointer with 1.2 seconds left.

New York shattered the previous record for an NBA Finals comeback, which was 24 points by the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the 2008 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Celtics went on to win the series in six games.

Boston was on the road for that game, however, while the Knicks were at home, so the Celtics hold the record for biggest road comeback in NBA Finals history.

New York now has a commanding 3-1 series lead and is only one win away from its first championship since 1973. Game 5 will be on Saturday in San Antonio, where the Spurs will try to bounce back from their historic collapse and extend the series.
