The New York Knicks are one win away from their first NBA championship since 1973, and according to Rich Paul, one player has stood above the rest throughout the NBA Finals.
Following New York's dramatic 107-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 on Wednesday night, Paul made the case that OG Anunoby deserves Finals MVP honors if the Knicks finish the job.
Paul's endorsement carries additional significance given his previous relationship with Anunoby. The Knicks forward was formerly represented by Klutch Sports before moving to CAA.
Speaking on the latest episode of Game Over with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul, the veteran agent pointed to Anunoby's consistent impact on both ends of the floor.
“OG… He’s been the most reliable on the Knicks in this series on both ends of the floor. He’s shot it well from three, he’s guarded, he’s made the hustle plays getting the 50-50 balls.”
“And so when you look at his overall impact on the series in each game, it’s been OG. He’s hit every timely shot, every big shot, he made a big play tonight on both ends of the floor between the block and then the tip to put them up one with 1.2 seconds left to go in the game.”
Paul's argument is difficult to dispute after Anunoby delivered the defining performance of the series in Game 4.
The 28-year-old forward finished with 33 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block while shooting 10-for-15 from the field, 7-for-9 from 3-point range and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line across 41 minutes.
Rich Paul believes OG Anunoby is currently the finals MVP

With the Knicks attempting to complete the largest comeback in NBA Finals history after trailing by 29 points, Anunoby blocked a De'Aaron Fox attempt late in the fourth quarter. Moments later, he followed Jalen Brunson's missed 3-pointer with a putback that gave New York a one-point lead with 1.2 seconds remaining.
The sequence ultimately secured a 3-1 series advantage and moved the Knicks to the brink of a championship.
Anunoby's production throughout the Finals has also been historically efficient. Through four games, he is averaging 23.8 points and 4.0 rebounds while making 3.8 3-pointers per game.
He is shooting 58 percent from the field, 56 percent from beyond the arc and 92 percent from the free-throw line. According to Real App, Anunoby's 78.4 true shooting percentage is the most efficient 20-point-per-game NBA Finals series in league history.
His seven made 3-pointers in Game 4 also rank third all-time in a Finals game behind only Stephen Curry's nine and Ray Allen's eight.
While Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns have both delivered crucial performances throughout New York's postseason run, Anunoby has arguably been the Knicks' most consistent player on both ends of the floor during the Finals.
Now, with a 3-1 series lead, the Knicks will head back to Frost Bank Center for Game 5 on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC. If New York captures the title, Anunoby's case for Finals MVP may become impossible to ignore.
