Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is being strongly linked with a move to Turkiye this week, though he is yet to confirm where he will be playing next season.

Salah left Liverpool at the end of a disappointing campaign, a year before his contract expired. He had a below-par season and aimed several digs at Arne Slot, in addition to accusing the club of "throwing him under the bus" in December.

Having now left Liverpool, speculation is mounting over where he will head next. Fenerbahce's former board member, Ertan Torunogullari, says a deal was in place with the Egyptian during his tenure, with Salah "very keen" on making the switch.

Aziz Yildirim, who has won the presidential election, claimed earlier this week that he would be willing to finance a three-year contract worth around $35 million (£26 million) a season for Salah.

That works out at around $660k (£500k) a week before tax, which would be a comparable salary to what he might expect to take home in Saudi Arabia.

Going to Fenerbahce, though, would mean remaining in Europe. The Turkish outfit finished second in the Super Lig, behind Galatasaray, and is therefore heading for the Champions League qualifiers.

"He was very keen on coming to Turkey. The meetings we had were extremely positive," Torunogullari told Fotospor.

"We had established common ground with him on many issues, including his salary.

"I believe that if the new management makes such a request, Salah will wear the Fenerbahce jersey. We would be happy to work with the new management on the negotiations."

If Salah was to move to Turkiye, he would be earning double the current highest-paid player, which is Victor Osimhen.

But the region has paid large salaries in the past, and Champions League soccer would help, in terms of both finances and pulling power.

Liverpool.com says: Salah going to Turkiye could make sense in a few ways. He should be aiming to play in a UEFA competition next season, whether that is the Champions League or the Europa League.

Moving to another Premier League side is almost certainly out of the question, while MLS and Saudi Arabia could be options for later down the line when he gets a bit older.
