Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefsmade NFL history on Wednesday. ESPN senior insider Adam Schefter reported that the franchise added two more years to his contract, valued at $504.75 million. It’s the first deal in league history to exceed half a billion dollars.
Mahomes entered the NFL as the No. 10 pick in 2017. The quarterback starred for Texas Tech and led the NCAA in passing yards in 2016. He has since led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl wins and earned three Super Bowl MVP awards. The 30-year-old is also a two-time league MVP, among other accolades.
Mahomes’ deal will run through 2033. He will be 37 by then and will likely retire with Kansas City. The question that remains is whether he can lead the team to even more success.

Erin Andrews Congratulates Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes announced the news on his Instagram account. He received thousands of reposts and comments congratulating him.
“CHIEFS KINGDOM!!!! We are here to stay! Love this place and the people that are apart of it and thank yall for being there for me and my family everyday! We ain’t done yet tho,” Mahomes wrote.
Fox sportscaster and TV personality Erin Andrews was among those who dropped congratulatory messages. She had no words for Mahomes, instead commenting using three emojis.
“🙌🙌🙌,” Andrews wrote.
Mahomes’ extension makes him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. He surpassed Dak Prescott’s $60 million a year by $4 million.
The Chiefs superstar continues to rehab from thetorn ACL he sustained in December. However, he will reportedly be ready for Week 1 and will aim to guide the team back to the playoffs. Kansas City missed the postseason for the first time in the Mahomes era with a 6-11 record.
Andrews, on the other hand, has worked with Fox Sports since 2012. She will continue to serve as the lead sideline reporter for the network’s NFL broadcasting team in the upcoming campaign.
