NBA rumors: Timberwolves, Warriors, Magic all out on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks

Trade speculation surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to dominate the NBA offseason, but a recent report suggests three frequently discussed destinations are no longer actively involved in talks with the Milwaukee Bucks.

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic have all fallen out of recent discussions involving the former two-time MVP.

“Minnesota and Golden State were both prominent Antetokounmpo suitors in February when the Bucks briefly invited trade interest in their Face of the Franchise, but sources say neither team has factored into the Bucks' recent trade talks,” Fischer wrote.

Fischer also reported that Orlando has not maintained meaningful dialogue with Milwaukee despite several notable connections between the organizations.

“I also continued to hear that there hasn't been any significant recent dialogue between the Magic and Bucks,” Fischer wrote.

The report is particularly noteworthy given Antetokounmpo's ties to Orlando. Magic senior advisor John Hammond and president Jeff Weltman were part of the Bucks front office that drafted Antetokounmpo in 2013. Orlando also recently hired head coach Sean Sweeney, who previously worked closely with Antetokounmpo as a Bucks assistant.

The Warriors had long been viewed as one of the more aggressive potential suitors. Last month, ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel reported that Golden State was heavily involved in discussions before the trade deadline.

“Golden State very much involved in trade conversations with the Bucks before the trade deadline in February, with Milwaukee taking a strong interest in the multiple draft picks being offered,” Siegel wrote.

However, Siegel also explained why the Warriors faced significant obstacles in completing a deal.

“While the Warriors' future draft assets are clearly more appealing than those other teams, like the Miami Heat, can offer for Giannis, the fact of the matter is that Golden State lacks leverage in trade talks,” Siegel wrote.

“Neither Green nor Butler would hold much value to a team like the Bucks if they were to trade Antetokounmpo, and the Warriors don't have a young, ‘blue-chip prospect’ Milwaukee is said to want.”

Siegel later suggested Golden State may be better served keeping its No. 11 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft rather than using it in a blockbuster pursuit.

With Minnesota, Golden State and Orlando reportedly no longer active participants, the focus of the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes continues to narrow. The Miami Heat remain widely viewed as the frontrunner, with multiple reports linking the organization to the Bucks superstar and league sources indicating Antetokounmpo has interest in Miami as a destination. At the same time, the Boston Celtics continue to linger as a potential dark horse after recent reporting suggested there is mutual intrigue between the franchise and the former MVP.

For now, Antetokounmpo remains a Buck. Yet with several contenders monitoring the situation, trade speculation surrounding one of the NBA's biggest stars is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
