Manchester City have long admired Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, while Liverpool and Manchester United are among several clubs monitoring the England international ahead of a potential move.

Liverpool are understood to be keeping a close eye on Anderson as they assess options to strengthen their midfield this summer.

The 23-year-old is currently with the England squad at the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, although discussions between clubs can continue during the tournament.

Anderson started England’s 3-0 victory over Costa Rica on Wednesday in the Three Lions’ final warm-up match before their World Cup opener against Croatia on June 17.

The former Newcastle United academy graduate enjoyed an impressive campaign with Forest last season, helping the club reach the Europa League semi-finals and avoid Premier League relegation despite a turbulent season that saw four managerial changes.

Since joining Forest from Newcastle in a £35million deal in 2024, Anderson has made 92 appearances, scoring six goals and establishing himself as one of the club’s standout performers.

According to BBC Sport, Man City’s second bid for Anderson, worth up to £120million, has been rejected. City have stepped up their pursuit of the Englishman, submitting an offer worth an initial £106million plus add-ons.

If completed, the deal would surpass the £105million Arsenal paid West Ham United for Declan Rice in 2023, making Anderson the most expensive English player in history.

Man City had already seen an opening offer turned down earlier this month. Anderson is understood to favour a move to the Etihad Stadium over Manchester United, while personal terms are not expected to present any issues.

With Bernardo Silva set to leave at the end of his contract, Man City are keen to strengthen their midfield options, with Anderson emerging as their leading target.

Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is also highly regarded by City, with the Italy international reportedly monitored as a potential long-term option in midfield.
