The Denver Broncos came so close to a Super Bowl appearance in 2025; if it weren't for an incredibly unlucky ankle injury to Bo Nix, they might've beaten the New England Patriots.
But, even still, the 2025 season was a very successful one, and was the kind of year Broncos fans have been waiting to see since the team hired Sean Payton as head coach.
Now, heading into the 2026 season, the Broncos have announced a well-deserved five-year contract extension for Payton that ties him with the franchise through the 2030 season.
Sean Payton receives 5-year contract extension with Broncos
"We're thrilled for Sean to continue leading our team as head coach, building on our progress during such an exciting time for the Broncos," Owner and CEO Greg Penner said.
This five-year extension announcement for Payton is well-deserved for the longtime NFL head coach. He's 62 years old, a former Super Bowl champion, former Coach of the Year, and has a .630 winning percentage as a coach in the NFL.
Since coming to the Broncos in 2023, Payton has a .627 winning percentage with a 32-19 record, thanks in large part to the 14-3 season the Broncos just had.

He and the Broncos have steadily improved since he came to the franchise in a trade with the New Orleans Saints, which has worked out great for the Broncos.
This team wouldn't be as good as it is if it weren't for Payton coming to the franchise back in 2023. He helped them move on from the Russell Wilson era, land a franchise QB in Nix, and turn into legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
A five-year extension through the 2030 season is one that Payton earned, as he's one of the better coaches in the NFL right now and is a huge reason for the Broncos' turnaround in recent years.
