Some people need to remember that basketball is just a game — even during the NBA finals.
Amid chaos around Madison Square garden after the Knicks trounced the Spurs in Wednesday’s Game 4 of the NBA Finals, someone pelted San Antonio star Victor Wembanyama with an egg as he exited the team’s bus.
A viral video tweeted out by @wstgoat7 shows the moment when an egg strikes the 7-foot-4 Frenchman in the head as he entered the Ritz-Carlton Nomad in Midtown Manhattan
Footage of incident from another angle shared online by @HaterReport shows security ushering Wemby inside the hotel after the yolked assault.

The incident came after the Spurs to the Knicks, 106-107, even though San Antonio held a 29-point lead at halftime. Indeed, the Knicks’ comeback was the greatest in NBA Finals history, prompting commentator Charles Barkley to label the Silver and Black as the “dumbest basketball team in the history of civilization.”
Even though the Knicks came out on top, the New York Times quoted police officials as saying crowds gathered near Madison Square Garden during the game “became increasingly destructive” as the home team carried out its comeback.
NYPD arrested 15 people and slapped another 41 with criminal court summonses after fans jumped on top of vehicles, tried to turn over a taxi and threw bottles, the Times reports.
“Once again, there were large crowds of people who engaged in incredibly reckless and dangerous behavior last night both during and after the game,” NYPD said in a statement cited by the paper.
The Spurs now face elimination in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, which will be played at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The game will air on ABC and be available to stream via YouTube TV.
