Patriots Practice Ends Early Drake Maye Takes Big Hit From This Player

The Patriots apparently survived a major scare during Thursday's minicamp practice.

New England ended practice early after edge rusher Bradyn Swinson accidentally ran into quarterback Drake Maye, according to reporters who attended the minicamp finale. Both players stayed on the ground for a bit but didn't appear to suffer any notable injuries.

"Practice was scheduled to go until about 2:50 but ended abruptly after Bradyn Swinson collided with Drake Maye after Maye completed a pass to AJ Brown," NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry wrote on X. "Both players on the ground momentarily. Maye appears to be OK. Swinson seemed to try to explain himself in the aftermath."

Perry added: "Maye is still on the field and throwing passes to Mack Hollins, Romeo Doubs, A.J. Brown amd Efton Chism. Looks OK. Bullet dodged."

Players don't wear full pads during minicamp practices, and full contact isn't permitted. Quarterbacks aren't even supposed to be hit during full-contact practices, so this was a big mistake from Swinson. It happens, but it isn't supposed to.

The Patriots now will go on a lengthy summer break before returning in late July for training camp.
