Rio Ngumoha scores‘worldie’ for England

England beat Miami FC 6-0 in a final training-ground match ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Ivan Toney scoring a hat-trick on Thursday.

According to the Daily Mail, the session was split into two mini-matches, with England winning the first 1-0 and the second 5-0.

Toney was the standout performer, scoring three goals, including a long-range strike, while former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, Ethan Nwaneri and Rio Ngumoha were also on target, with Ngumoha scoring a breathtaking goal from distance.

Thomas Tuchel watched on as players including Marc Guehi and Kobbie Mainoo impressed at England’s West Palm Beach base.

Ngumoha, along with Nwaneri and Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, is not part of the official tournament squad but has been involved in training and preparation. Ngumoha also made his first senior appearance last weekend against New Zealand and was named Player of the Match.

Ngumoha will leave the England camp this week after making a strong impression on Thomas Tuchel and his international teammates. The 17-year-old will go on holiday before rejoining Liverpool next month for their pre-season tour of the United States.

The teenager was initially only expected to take part in training sessions, but Tuchel was sufficiently impressed to hand him minutes in a warm-up match, a decision that was later justified by his performance.

His displays have sparked debate over whether he should have been considered earlier in Tuchel’s plans, either for the final 26-man squad or as an immediate option in case of injuries.

However, because Ngumoha was not included in the initial 55-man squad, he is not eligible to be drafted in as an injury replacement for the tournament.

Ngumoha made history as Liverpool’s youngest scorer after, aged 16, netting a decisive 100th-minute winner in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle. He made 10 senior starts last season.

A number of European clubs have since shown interest in the youngster, with Bayern Munich among those monitoring his situation this summer.

However, Liverpool are adamant they will not sell him, while Bayern are also understood to be considering alternative targets on their shortlist.
