NBA twists the knife after Knicks’ crazy comeback with L2M report

While there were a multitude of reasons as to why the San Antonio Spurs choked away Game 4 of the NBA Finals amid the New York Knicks’ incredible comeback, the league’s release of the last two minute report certainly didn’t help things. It was found by the NBA that a foul should have been called on Josh Hart with a little over one minute to go that was instead ruled out of bounds on Stephon Castle.

The NBA’s L2M report says that Stephon Castle’s turnover where he was called for stepping out-of-bounds was an INCORRECT call 👀

The only other error that was found in the last two minutes of the Spurs’ Game 4 loss was Victor Wembanyama should have been called for a 3-second violation near the minute and a half mark.

The Wembanyama no-call didn’t have any effect on the final outcome of the game, but the no-call on Josh Hart had major implications. At that point in Game 4, the Spurs were trailing by one, 105-104, after a clutch shot from Jalen Brunson.

At the time, the Knicks were out of team fouls so if a foul would have been called on Hart for impeding movement, as the NBA said should have happened, Castle should have been at the free-throw line to shoot two. For someone who shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the stripe in Game 4, it stands to reason that Castle would have knocked those two down, as he did just one possession later.

Only instead of giving the Spurs a one-point advantage like he did with 30 seconds left, it would have potentially been a three-point Spurs lead.

But on the flip side, if the Spurs don’t choke away a 29-point lead, then none of what happened in the final two minutes matters. Game 5 is scheduled for Saturday, June 13 with the Spurs looking to avoid elimination and the Knicks hoping to clinch the franchise’s first championship since 1973.
