Alisson alternative tells Juventus he wants to join

Juventus ended the 2025/26 season sixth in Serie A, missing out on Champions League qualification, and have made signing a goalkeeper a top priority this summer.

Luciano Spalletti’s side initially explored a move for Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson Becker, but saw their approach rebuffed by the Reds.

As a result, Juventus have turned their attention to Emiliano Martínez, who is currently preparing for the World Cup with Argentina. Lionel Scaloni’s side begin their title defence against Algeria in their Group J opener on Wednesday.

Martínez was instrumental in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph and remains highly regarded as one of the world’s top goalkeepers. He has also been linked with several Premier League clubs in recent windows.

Juventus are now reportedly in talks over a potential move for the Aston Villa shot-stopper. According to talkSPORT, Emiliano Martinez has informed Juventus that he wishes to join the club.

However, despite reports in Italy suggesting a deal is close, nothing has yet been agreed with Aston Villa. Martínez has long been linked with a move away from Villa Park, having previously seen a transfer to Manchester United collapse last summer.

More recently, it was reported that the 33-year-old was keen to leave English football, with Inter Milan also mentioned as a possible destination in January. It now appears Martinez has set his sights on another Italian giant, with Juventus emerging as his preferred option.

Martínez’s current contract at Villa Park runs until 2029, after he signed a new five-year deal in 2024. That means Aston Villa are expected to demand a significant fee from Juventus, with reports in Italy suggesting a valuation in the region of €10million–€15m (£8.6m–£12.9m).

Should a move go through, Villa are likely to enter the market for a new No.1, and have already started planning for that scenario. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Japan international and Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki is among three names on Villa’s shortlist as potential replacements if Martinez departs.

For Juventus, the pursuit of Martinez forms part of a wider effort to strengthen their squad defensively after a disappointing campaign.
