Packers wrap minicamp with training camp 47 days away

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Packers concluded their offseason minicamp Wednesday with training camp 47 days away.

Veterans report July 28, with the first practice scheduled for July 29, head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed.

LaFleur said his message to players heading into summer break emphasized accountability.

“The work that they put in will show itself in training camp,” LaFleur said. “They gotta push it, man, in every aspect—mentally, physically—every aspect is gonna impact their game. But I think we got a really good group. Guys that come in with the right mentality, the right attitude. And we’ll be checking in on them quite a bit this summer to make sure everybody’s still moving the same direction.”

The offseason program provided the team’s six rookies with their first extended work in the system before the intensity increases at training camp.

Offensive lineman Jager Burton said the rookies have shown consistency.

“You know, those guys come in and they’re the same person every day,” Burton said. “There’s never like—whatever’s going on, if there’s something going on outside of here or whatever it is—they show up with the focus to get better and make the team better that day.”

Cornerback Brandon Cisse said the adjustment process has gone well.

“With anything that you do, you’re gonna go through scheme adjustments, you’re gonna go through different kind of scenes you haven’t seen before, but it’s all been great,” Cisse said. “You know, there’s gonna be things that happen and it’s been good.”

Veterans are excused from OTAs next week, but rookies will continue working before summer break. Rookie kicker Trey Smack missed a 32-yard field goal that could have tied the game in a two-minute drill Thursday.
