Meanwhile, Premier League clubs are beavering away on the transfer front, striking deals while they can despite hundreds of elite players currently having their full focus on the World Cup. This means we’re likely to see a quieter June in this summer’s window, while July and August will be, to put it mildly, utter bedlam.
We’ll get today’s gossip round-up and running at Anfield, where Liverpool are preparing to storm back under new manager Andoni Iraola after a tough 2025/26 campaign that saw them fail to defend their Premier League title - an outcome that, alongside struggles in the cup competitions, meant Arne Slot was sacked at the end of the season.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Juve, the Reds could well lose midfielder Curtis Jones this summer, with the England international like to join Serie A giants Inter. This is said to have sparked Liverpool’s interest in a replacement from the same division: Juventus’ Khephren Thuram.
The report says that he could be leaving this summer, after his club failed to qualify for the Champions League. It’s also noted that the 25-year-old could cost up to £43m, and that Manchester United could also come into the picture, with Nottingham Forest set to demand over £100m to sell them England star Elliot Anderson.
The 3AM Verdict: Premier League interest is now well established, with both Newcastle United and Aston Villa linked back in March. Thuram is a formidable presence in midfield and works relentlessly, making him an ideal fit for Andoni Iraola’s all-action style of play. He’d be a great signing for the Reds, and would be a clear upgrade on Jones, should he leave.
Fabrizio Romano drops big Newcastle update
It wouldn’t be the summer without some ‘Here We Go’ social media announcements from Romano, would it? He is to the transfer window what Michael Buble is to Christmas, and now brings word that Newcastle United are closing in on their second deal of the summer, having already wrapped up a move for towering goalkeeper Ewen ‘how many vowels does one man need in their surname’ Jaouen from Reims.
According to the reporter, the Magpies have taken a big step towards signing their replacement for Anthony Gordon, who sealed his £70m mega move to Barcelona before flying out to Florida for England’s World Cup preparations. Romano claims Newcastle are “confident” of signing Osasuna’s Victor Munoz “very soon” after pushing through a bid in the region of £26m.
The 3AM Verdict: We’ve followed this story over the past couple of weeks, with the Magpies’ interest in the young Spain international far form a secret. It looks like Newcastle’s offer should be accepted, and getting the deal done for less than his £35m release clause is impressive work. They’ll have plenty of money left over to chase other targets, too.
Man United eye intriguing new left-back target
Rounding things off nicely, we’ll head on over to Old Trafford, where Manchester United have set themselves the challenge of signing a new left-back to give their only current option, Luke Shaw, some much-needed competition. They’ve been heavily linked with Newcastle’s Lewis Hall, but a new target has now come into the picture: Fulham’s Antonee Robinson.
That’s according to Sky Sports News, who suggest the USA international could be set to leave Craven Cottage following manager Marco Silva’s exit. Unfortunately, that’s about as far as their story goes, with the rest of the article dedicated to comparing his stats to Hall. Robinson just about comes out on top, in case you were wondering.
The 3AM Verdict: The story doesn’t suggest how much Fulham may want for Robinson, but reports suggestedvalued reports earlier this years suggestedhe’s valued at around £30m-£40m. With Hall likely to cost double that, Robinson would certainly be the safer move, although the England international, seven years his junior, has a higher energy.
