Official: Liverpool set to welcome sensational £60m new signing on July 1

Liverpool are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer to solve several problems despite spending £460m in 2025.

Arne Slot has been sacked by Liverpool and has been replaced by now former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, but the Spaniard faces a challenging task of restoring the club to the heights they hit under Jurgen Klopp and in the first season under Slot.

The good news for Iraola is that, despite some glaring issues in the overall profile of the Liverpool squad, he is walking into a squad blessed with some truly exciting talents.

Florian Wirtz was signed for £116m last summer, but he underperformed under Slot, who seemingly misunderstood the type of player he’d been given by FSG. The German is set to star for his nation at the World Cup, which should showcase his ability better than Liverpool were able to.

Hugo Ekitike, who was tragically struck down by a horrible Achilles tendon tear, was signed for £79m from Eintracht Frankfurt, but was one of the best players of the season before.

Alexander Isak suffered a similar fate to Ekitike, breaking his leg against Spurs in late December, but his £125m stands as Liverpool’s biggest transfer fee by around £50m. He is expected to return fit and firing next season, scoring a wonderful goal in a pre-World Cup friendly for Sweden.

Liverpool set to welcome Jeremy Jacquet on July 1 in £60m transfer for the future

Jacquet is highly rated by Liverpool as evidenced by the massive fee paid for a teenager. The 19-year-old wowed scouts in France with his performances for Rennes, placing him alongside Giovanni Leoni as one of the best U21 centre-backs on the planet.

Dominic King, speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast in April, explained Liverpool’s lofty opinion of Jacquet ahead of his imminent arrival at the AXA Training Centre.

He says: “I think Liverpool need hungry players. I think that this regeneration needs to come. So they bought Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in terms of, you know, he’s a young lad who’s going to develop, who’s hungry to succeed.

“They believe that deal is a coup. They know that there was an awful lot of clubs around Europe looking to get him, particularly Chelsea.

“But he chose Liverpool because he was sold on how he could develop with Liverpool. I think that’s the type of profile that they will look at.”
