Bayern Munich could be plotting a move for Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford, who couldn’t seal a permanent switch to Barcelona.
The Englishman has been out of Man Utd’s plans since December 2024, when Ruben Amorim decided to omit him from the squad.
The 28-year-old ended up signing for Aston Villa on loan during that winter, before fulfilling a personal dream by signing for Barcelona last summer.
Marcus Rashford given Bayern Munich option after Barca snub
Despite scoring 14 goals and producing as many assists, the Manchester native hasn’t done enough to convince Barcelona to purchase him.
The Blaugrana have opted against exercising their option to buy Rashford for £26 million, instead spending £80 million to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.
According to the Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall, Rashford was ‘blindsided’ by the Catalan club’s decision, which left him high and dry.
The source insists that Barca have already made a final decision on the option clause, which will expire on June 15th.
However, they could try to negotiate new terms with Man Utd, who insist on their initial asking price, which they consider fair.
Nevertheless, Marshall reveals that Rashford could be offered a golden opportunity to join another European giant in Bayern Munich, who are ‘seriously’ contemplating a move.
Why Rashford to Bayern Munich makes sense
Before joining Barcelona, Gordon was a top target for Bayern Munich, who are keen to add a new attacker to their squad.
Therefore, it makes sense for the Bundesliga champions to consider Rashford, who would be a quality addition to their department.
The 28-year-old primarily features as an inverted left winger, but he’s also comfortable playing anywhere in the final third.
Rashford’s Career Stats Appearances Goals Assists
Man Utd 426 138 79
Aston Villa 17 4 6
Barcelona 49 14 14
This season, Rashford proved to be a competent backup for Raphinha and Lamine Yamal. At Bayern, he would fill in for Luis Diaz, Michael Olise, and even his international teammate, Harry Kane, who doesn’t have a natural understudy, with Nicolas Jackson set to return to Chelsea.
If the Bavarian giants are willing to match United’s asking price of £26 million, INEOS would be happy to do business. However, covering the player’s £325k-per-week salary remains the biggest impediment.
