Bodycam released in deadly Flats shooting

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Cleveland Division of Police released new body camera footage of the deadly shooting in the Flats in September 2025.

According to a release from Cleveland Police, at around 2:33 a.m. on September 25, 2025, officers assigned to the Entertainment District on foot patrol, managing large crowds at bar closures, overheard shots fired near the 1000 block of West 11th Street.

Police said officers rushed over and located a 21-year-old Zai Vyon Frederick Ocie Jackson, who had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene by Cleveland EMS.

Officers canvassing the area on foot located another victim, a 24-year-old man, with a gunshot wound.

The man was treated by EMS and taken to the hospital.

Investigators learned that an argument between the two men escalated into gunfire, according to the release.

Police learned the 24-year-old man is a suspect in the shooting.

19 News is working to learn more about the suspect’s identity and the charges he is facing.

This shooting came just weeks after six people were shot in the Flats on Sept. 7, 2025.
