Liverpool are interested in completing the signing of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery, according to a new transfer claim.
Reinforcements are needed in the middle of the park for the Reds ahead of next season, with a lack of quality and legs on show there last season.
It remains to be seen if Alexis Mac Allister will remain a Liverpool player beyond the summer, and Curtis Jones for that matter, but a new midfielder is still needed even if they stay.
According to a new report from El Nacional [via Yahoo], the Reds are eyeing a move for PSG Champions League winner Zaire-Emery, who is arguably one of Europe’s most exciting young players.
The £56m-rated Frenchman is thought to be considering his future at the European champions because of a lack of starts, due to world-class duo Vitinha and Joao Neves being ahead of him in the pecking order.
Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay more than the asking price in order to sign Zaire-Emery, in what would be a serious show of intent by Andoni Iraola.
Warren Zaire-Emery a sensational potential Liverpool signing
There is so much to love about Zaire-Emery as a player, with the France international already performing with so much maturity at the age of just 20, being lauded by PSG manager Luis Enrique:
“Warren has changed but it’s not thanks to me, it’s thanks to him. He’s an incredible player, he can play anywhere. For me, as a coach, it’s wonderful to have a player like him.”
Zaire-Emery has a perfect blend of technical class and physicality, bagging three goals and four assists in Ligue 1 last season, but also averaging 1.5 tackles per game in both the league and the Champions League.
Liverpool should look to do all they can to make him a leading midfield target, considering he has a world-class ceiling and his best years are long ahead of him.
PSG may well be hesitant to lose such a huge talent, so it won’t be easy for the Reds to strike a deal, but he stands out as a fantastic and possibly stronger alternative to the likes of Alex Scott and Adam Wharton.
