Manchester City have confirmed the free transfer signing of Beth Mead with her Arsenal contract set to expire at the end of this month.
Mead’s departure was announced in May ahead of the final home game of the season at home to Everton. She spent nine years at the club and made 265 appearances and scored 86 goals for Arsenal.
Beth won a WSL title, three Conti Cups and a Champions League during her time with the club and was voted second in the 2022 Ballon D’Or after winning the Golden Boot and the Player of the Tournament as England won the Euros in 2022.
Mead was offered a contract by Arsenal towards the end of last season but the player decided to take on a new challenge. We also understand that City’s contract offer was in excess of Arsenal’s in terms of duration, with her City deal running for three years.
The Gunners will bring in Geraldine Reuteler, Georgia Stanway and Ona Batlle on free transfers this summer, with Selina Cerci and Lisa Baum also drawing their interest. Meanwhile, Laila Harbert will shortly join San Diego Wave with Arsenal retaining a first refusal option on her.
