Liverpool centre-back set for loan after £3.6m spend on 2 new defenders

Liverpool are expected to sanction a loan for first-team hopeful Amara Nallo this summer, following the combined £3.6 million spend on two other centre-backs.

Nallo has spent the last three years as part of Liverpool’s academy, having arrived from West Ham in 2023, and has enjoyed experience around the first team.

The 19-year-old overcame the unfortunate record of being sent off in back-to-back appearances across two seasons when he came off the bench for his third senior outing against Qarabag in January.

But having been on the fringes of the first team throughout Arne Slot‘s tenure, Nallo is now likely to head out on loan this summer.

The Liverpool Echo‘s Paul Gorst reports that he is expected to gain experience elsewhere having dropped down the pecking order following the arrival of Mor Talla Ndiaye.

Ndiaye and Ndukwe could block Nallo’s pathway

Ndiaye joined from Senegalese side Amitie FC for around £1 million in January and quickly became a regular around the first-team squad in the absence of Giovanni Leoni.

He was one of three centre-backs to sign for Liverpool mid-season and two of those are slated to stay around Andoni Iraola‘s squad as part of their long-term pathway.

Also considered in wider first-team contention will be Ifeanyi Ndukwe, who is set to complete his £2.6 million switch from Austria Vienna this summer.

Like Ndiaye, Ndukwe is due to join up with the U21s, but the likelihood is that both will be involved in Iraola’s first pre-season with Ibrahima Konate leaving and Virgil van Dijk involved at the World Cup.

Leoni and new signing Jeremy Jacquet are both on course to return to full training in time for pre-season but rotation will be required during the warmup schedule.

While Nallo is comfortable around the first team his opportunities are likely to be limited, and a season out on loan should be more beneficial.

No clubs are named as suitors as it stands but the chances are he will join a side in the Football League, as was the case with the likes of Luke Chambers, Owen Beck, Calum Scanlon and Isaac Mabaya last season.
