A friend of Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shenawy, claimed that the departing Liverpool ace is yet to make a decision on his future after leaving the Anfield side.

Salah left Liverpool a year before his contract expired after coming to an agreement with the club. This week has seen speculation mount that he could be heading for Turkiye.

"The prospect of leaving Liverpool has affected Mo psychologically, but the situation might change and he could still stay with the team," El-Shenawy told ON Time Sports. "He even told me that he doesn't know anything about his future yet."

El-Shenawy also made some bold claims about Arne Slot, who Salah had a strained relationship with. The Dutch head coach was fired at the end of the season and replaced with Andoni Iraola.

"Arne Slot left Liverpool because of the way he treated Mohamed Salah," El-Shenawy claimed.

"Salah is a great player and a club legend who has achieved so much; Slot should have made the most of him instead of treating him inappropriately. But Slot lacks this culture because he is not a top coach."

In reality, of course, Salah criticized Liverpool publicly when he was named on the bench for three games in a row back in December.

His poor form meant that it was the correct call, but he suggested that he was being made a scapegoat for below-par performances and claimed the Reds had "thrown him under the bus."

Shortly before his final appearance for Liverpool, Salah aimed a dig at the team's playing style and said it must get back to playing "heavy metal" soccer.

Fenerbahce's former board member, Ertan Torunogullari, has claimed this week that a deal was in place with the Egyptian during his time with the Super Lig club. Salah, he said, was "very keen" on making the switch.

Aziz Yildirim, who has won the Fenerbahce presidential election, also said a few days ago that he would be willing to finance a three-year contract worth around $35 million (£26 million) a season for Salah.

That works out at around $660,000 (£500k) a week before tax, which would perhaps be the closest thing to a comparable salary that he might expect to take home in Saudi Arabia without heading for the Middle East.

Going to Fenerbahce would mean remaining in Europe. The Turkish outfit finished second in the top flight in the season just gone, only behind Galatasaray, and is therefore heading for the Champions League qualifiers.
