Drake Maye Collides With Defender, Mike Vrabel Stops Practice

ESPN reporter Mike Reiss reported that coach Mike Vrabel stopped practice near the end of a competitive red-zone drill. After connecting with AJ Brown, Drake Maye collided with Bradyn Swinson.

As Swinson explained himself to the team, the entire squad gathered around Maye. According to Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston, Maye “dodged a bullet.”.

It was fortunate that no serious injuries occured. Maye’s loss would be devastating to the Patriots this off-season. The offensive and defensive lines had a “hotly contested” red-zone practice, according to Andrew Callahan.

Practice was scheduled to go until about 2:50 but ended abruptly after Bradyn Swinson collided with Drake Maye after Maye completed a pass to AJ Brown.

In a huddle, Vrabel addressed the entire team. Approximately 20 minutes earlier than expected, practice ended.

“That’s not OK,” receiver A.J. Brown said. “Nobody should be on the ground at practice. That’s my rule. If anybody is on the ground, it’s a bad practice.”

“I think that’s the message right there,” defensive end Elijah Ponder said. “Stay away from Drake. Stay away from all the quarterbacks. You know they’re very valuable and we need them for the season, so we’ve got to protect them at all costs.”
