Broncos’ Jonathon Cooper Arrested Again

According to Douglas County (Colo.) jail records, linebacker Jonathon Cooper was arrested again Thursday after violating a protection order.

A misdemeanor charge of violation of a protection order and harassment (repeated phone calls) was filed against Cooper at 10:07 pm MT. There will be a court hearing on Friday morning.

It follows the arrest of Cooper and his girlfriend by Parker Police on June 4th, following an argument and physical confrontation between the two:

On Thursday, two additional charges — felony second-degree assault by strangulation and misdemeanor third-degree assault — were added against Cooper, according to court records.

“We are disappointed to learn of Jonathon Cooper’s arrest on Thursday and continue to review this matter,” the Broncos said in a statement.

Cooper pleaded not guilty to his original misdemeanor domestic violence charges on Monday.

He has been in attendance for the Broncos’ offseason program, including Thursday’s practice. After Thursday’s OTA practice, Broncos coach Sean Payton said he had a “long visit” with Cooper about the arrest.

Fans Immediately Reacted To This Second Arrest

News of the arrest went viral and fans had a lot to say:

Going on Instagram to post an apology and then immediately violating the protection order is some of the worst legal decision making I’ve ever seen

Hes about to get no bond for being a danger to the other party. Courts take protection orders SERIOUS.

Someone needs to protect her before he does something more serious. Forget football … this guy is a ticking time bomb.

Time for the Broncos to move on. Release him. If we have the depth to survive without him, fine. If not, bring in Von or Cam Jordan.

Does this void his contract? Should give us an additional $15m/year. Hopefully we get all the other money back.
