The Legion of Boom Headlines the Seattle Seahawks All Defensive Team on PFF Over the Last 20…

The Seattle Seahawks defense was no doubt elite over the last 20 seasons in the NFL. Seattle had a very good defense when they won the Super Bowl during the 2025 NFL season, but the Seahawks defense was elite when they went to the Super Bowl in 2013 and 2014.

At that time, Seattle’s defense was known as the Legion of Boom. Richard Sherman was one of the main leaders of that defense and he was an amazing cornerback. The Seahawks were coached by Pete Carroll, and the defense was coached by Dan Quinn. There is no doubt that a lot of legion of boom members were named to the all profootballfocus team over the last 20 years.

The Legion of Boom Headlines the Seattle Seahawks All Defensive Team on PFF Over the Last 20 Seasons

Profootballfocus.com writer Nathan Jahnke wrote about the Seahawks top defensive players over the last 20 seasons. A lot of players from the legion of boom headline this defensive unit. Along with Sherman, Earl Thomas III, Kam Chancellor, Chris Clemons, Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, Bruce Irvin, Michael Bennett, and Chris Clemons were all a part of that defense at one point in time. This is one of the greatest defenses of all time. Jahnke said about Seattle’s unit,

“The Seahawks allowed the fewest points in the NFL in each season from 2012 to 2015. No other team has accomplished that in consecutive seasons during the PFF era, so unsurprisingly, this team is largely built around the Legion of Boom defense.

Two exceptions are Leonard Williams and Devon Witherspoon. They are Seattle’s two highest-graded defenders over the last three seasons and play positions where the Seahawks did not have an All-Pro-caliber option from the Legion of Boom era.

The other exception is Marcus Trufant, who played the second-most snaps among Seahawks cornerbacks over the last 20 years (5,570). While Byron Maxwell from the Legion of Boom era earned a slightly higher grade, particularly in 2013, he played less than half as many snaps for Seattle.”

It will be interesting to see how this Seahawks defense is going to shape out over the next 20 years in the NFL. The legion of boom will forever be remembered in Seattle. Sherman, Wagner, Chancellor, Thomas, and others were tremendous at their respective positions. This defense was also another reason why Quinn was able to be a head coach in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons as well.
