Patriots Trade Idea Lands 2022 First-Round NFC East Pass Rusher

The Patriots traded for Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown on June 1. Should they stop there, or should they consider trading for another veteran player?

New England should strengthen its pass rush before training camp in late July. Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report suggested the Patriots should consider trading for the Giants' pass rusher, Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Davenport proposed a trade idea that would send Thibodeaux to New England for a conditional 2027 third-round pick.

"Of course, if the Giants can get a better deal than the compensatory pick the team will get when Thibodeaux all but certainly leaves in 2027 in free agency, it could be another story," Davenport wrote on Friday. "The Patriots have already pushed their chips into the middle of the table with the A.J. Brown trade.

"For the opportunity to bolster the pass rush, New England might as well mortgage the future a little bit more. And while Thibodeaux had a down 2025, we are talking about a 25-year-old former top-five pick with an 11.5-sack season on his NFL resume."

The Giants drafted Thibodeaux with the fifth pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but his progress has been inconsistent. In 53 career games, he recorded 31 tackles for loss and 23.5 sacks. After a promising 2023 season with 11.5 sacks, he has only managed eight sacks in the following 22 games.

Since Thibodeaux will be heading into free agency after the season, the Giants should look to trade him, and the Patriots would be a great fit.
