Confirmed – Barcelona renew contracts of two highly-rated academy prospects

FC Barcelona have been busy securing the futures of young prospects coming through the ranks at La Masia in recent days.

In fact, earlier today, the Blaugrana confirmed the contract renewals of two of the most promising players in their youth system, Gorka Buil and Pere Villacorta.

While the club announced both extensions, it did not disclose the length of the new agreements.

Gorka Buil – a special talent

At just 16 years old, Gorka Buil has already featured for both Barcelona’s Juvenil B and Juvenil A sides this season. Primarily a central midfielder, the 16-year-old can also operate as a left winger.

Buil has spent two seasons at Barcelona and has also been used as a false nine, demonstrating strong attacking instincts and versatility across several forward positions.

The youngster signed his new deal alongside youth football director Jose Ramon Alexanko.

The renewal comes during a difficult period for Buil, who missed the final part of the season after suffering a serious hamstring injury.

The problem required surgery and is expected to keep him out of action until September. Despite the setback, the club remain highly confident in his potential.

Villacorta also set to continue at La Masia

Barcelona also announced the renewal of 16-year-old defender Villacorta, who signed his new contract in the presence of Sergi Mila, the club’s co-ordinator of 11-a-side football development.

Villacorta is expected to play at youth level again next season and is regarded as one of the academy’s most complete defensive prospects.

Although primarily a centre-back, he is also comfortable at left-back and in a defensive midfield role. Coaches and academy observers have highlighted his personality, technical quality and tactical maturity as some of his standout attributes.

By securing the futures of both Buil and Villacorta, Barcelona continue their efforts to retain the most talented members of La Masia’s next generation.
