Mamadou Sangare is now on the priority list of Manchester United. The Red Devils aim to secure his transfer. Sangare represents French club Lens as a midfielder.
Manchester United aim big for Sangare
The Red Devils want Sangare for their midfield lineup next season. As reported by METRO, the club are ‘preparing’ an offer of £35 million for the 23-year-old. Interestingly, if Sangare leaves Lens, the French club have an asking price of €50 million. Moreover, United are not the only team interested in Sangare for now. Liverpool are also pursuing the Ligue 1 star.
Sangare joined Lens club in 2025. He performed well for the French club. The midfielder previously represented the Austrian club Rapid Wien. The Mali midfielder played for the club between 2024 and 2025. He also played for Red Bull Salzburg between 2020 and 2024. In between, he was loaned out to FC Liefering, Grazer AK, Zulte Waregem, and TSV Hartberg under brief loan spells.

Why is United interested in Mamadou Sangare?
The Red Devils had a roller coaster ride last year. They faced early exits in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. However, United secured a third place finish in the 2025-26 Premier League. This ensured them a berth in the upcoming Champions League. Also, Michael Carrick, who was the then interim manager, got a permanent position as the new head coach.
For the next season, Man Utd is undergoing a massive overhaul. Team manager Carrick wants a stronger, better side. This is why the club is approaching players like Sangare. His current performance has made him a top favorite for many European clubs this summer. Sangare played a crucial role in Lens’ brilliant run at Ligue 1. They finished in second place in the 2025-26 league table. Lens also created history at the Coupe de France. The French club won their debut title by defeating Nice 3-1 in the finals.
What will be the next move for Sangare this summer?
Sangare has a lot to achieve. Liverpool and Manchester United are jostling for this midfielder. However, before he makes the next move, Sangare has a few things to take care of. He was also given the Marc Vivian-foe award for the best African player in Ligue 1 recently.
To begin with, he needs to improve his fitness. Sangare sustained minor injuries in the last **football**season. He also sustained a pelvic injury in February 2026. This ruled him out for a couple of days. If he improves on this, nothing is impossible to achieve for the Mali player.
Meanwhile, Manchester United need to buck up. The last time the Red Devils won a major trophy was in May 2024. Man Utd overcame Manchester City by 2-1 to win the FA Cup. The last time United won the Premier League was in the 2012-13 edition. At that time, Alex Ferguson was the head coach. Moreover, it’s been more than a decade since the Old Trafford club won the UEFA Champions League. The Red Devils won the 2008 edition when they defeated Chelsea 6-5 on penalties.
If Carrick wants to bring back those glorious days, he needs to ensure that he has the best men at his disposal. Also he needs to avoid repeating the previous mistakes. This is why the club management are pursuing players like Ederson, Mateus Fernandes, Elliot Anderson, and now Mamadou Sangare. It remains to be seen if the midfielder from Mali agrees to the deal offered by the Red Devils. But if he does, manager Carrick will be beginning the upcoming season on a positive note.
