Ole Werner’s future as RB Leipzig head coach has been the subject of growing uncertainty in recent weeks. Werner arrived from Werder Bremen last summer and guided Leipzig to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga during his first season in charge, securing qualification for the Champions League.
The 38-year-old earned a reputation at Bremen for his tactical flexibility and ability to maximise limited resources, and he largely delivered on expectations in his debut campaign at Leipzig.

However, despite those achievements, reports suggest RB Leipzig are considering a change in the dugout. According to Marca, Martin Demichelis is set to leave RCD Mallorca and is close to becoming Leipzig’s new head coach.
The report claims the Argentine has received an offer from the Bundesliga club that he considers impossible to turn down.
The move has been handled in strict secrecy, with only Demichelis’ inner circle aware of the negotiations, leaving many Mallorca supporters surprised by the development. Leipzig are understood to have activated Demichelis’ release clause to secure the deal.
For Demichelis, the appointment would mark a return to German football 15 years after leaving Bayern Munich. The former defender spent eight years with the Bavarian giants between 2003 and 2011, making 259 appearances and winning four Bundesliga titles and four DFB-Pokals.
Following his retirement in 2017, Demichelis began his coaching career in Bayern’s academy before taking charge of River Plate in 2023, leading the Argentine club to a league title.
He later managed CF Monterrey in Mexico before joining Mallorca in March, though he was unable to prevent the club’s relegation from La Liga. An official decision on Werner’s future is expected soon.
Jurgen Klopp currently serves as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, overseeing the company’s network of clubs, which includes RB Salzburg and Leipzig. The 58-year-old is among the decision-makers to bring Demichelis to Leipzig.
While Klopp was not involved in the decision to dismiss former Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders as Salzburg head coach in 2024, he has played an active role in shaping the club’s future direction.
According to reports, Jurgen Klopp has also identified Rangers manager Danny Rohl as a leading candidate to take charge of Salzburg, with the German coach now among the frontrunners for the position.
