NFL Makes Stefon Diggs Punishment Decision After Concluding Investigation

The New England Patriots released Stefon Diggs earlier this offseason, but he remains unsigned. Part of the reason Diggs may not have been signed yet is that the NFL was investigating whether there was enough evidence to say he violated the league's personal conduct policy, potentially leading to a suspension.

On Friday, Ian Rapoport revealed that the league has closed its investigation into Diggs, deeming there was insufficient evidence to support a finding of a personal conduct policy violation. This means Diggs will not be suspended for the charges brought against him by his former live-in personal chef.

Diggs pleaded not guilty to charges brought by Jamila Adams earlier this offseason. After a two-day trial, he was found not guilty of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery. However, just because he was not guilty does not mean the NFL could not suspend him. If he were found to violate the personal conduct policy after the league's investigation, he would be subject to at least a six-game suspension.

Criminal charges or convictions are not required for the league to investigate or discipline players.

Diggs has been free to sign with teams for months now, but the leagl proceeding and the league's investigation loomed large. Now, he is in the clear, and his market could heat up in a hurry. He was a 1,000-yard receiver last season and proved he can still be a valuable piece to a contender.
