NFL makes ruling on Stefon Diggs personal conduct investigation

The NFL has notified wide receiver Stefon Diggs of its decision following an investigation into whether or not he violated the league’s personal conduct policy.

The NFL’s investigation stemmed from assault accusations against Diggs that came from his former private chef.

Diggs was charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery but was found not guilty back in May during a two-day trial.

On Friday, the league notified Diggs it did not find sufficient evidence to prove he violated the league’s personal conduct policy, which would have led to a suspension.

“The NFL notified (free agent) WR Stefon Diggs today that it concluded its investigation and there is insufficient evidence to support a finding of a personal conduct policy violation,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.

This will now fully clear the way for Diggs to sign with a new team, as squads were likely waiting to see if he would face any punishment before inking the veteran wideout.

Diggs spent the 2025 campaign with the New England Patriots, where he totaled another 1,000-yard season and helped the team reach the Super Bowl.

Diggs also played a huge role in the development of quarterback Drake Maye, who finished as the runner-up for the Most Valuable Player award during a season in which the young signal-caller took a huge step forward in his career.

However, the Patriots cut Diggs earlier this offseason ahead of the second year of his contract.

The reason behind that had to do with Diggs’ cap hit ballooning to a number New England wasn’t comfortable paying. The two sides tried to work something out, but to no avail.

Head coach Mike Vrabel recently said a reunion with Diggs likely isn’t in the cards right now, but he didn’t completely rule it out, either.

“I think we’re probably at the number that we would need right now,” Vrabel said of a possible reunion with Diggs. “I wouldn’t say anything is off the table. We’d want to add anybody that can help us. I’m not going to give a percentage on it, but I think we’re happy with where we’re at right now, with the the numbers and the people in the receiver room.”

Since releasing Diggs, the Patriots have replaced him with A.J. Brown, who was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, and they also have Romeo Doubs.

At this point, it would be surprising to see Diggs back in New England and it’s far more likely he’s playing elsewhere in 2026.
