AC Milan continue to search for a new figure to lead the club into the 2026/27 season.

One high-profile option has now drooped out of the running.

We have recently covered reports that the Italian giants were set for direct talks with former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim after his departure from Old Trafford earlier this year.

The Portuguese coach remains one of several names linked with the vacancy as Milan look to speed up their decision-making process.

At the end of last month, another former United manager also emerged as a serious candidate.

However, that move now appears to have collapsed.

According to Matteo Moretto on X, AC Milan will not appoint Ralf Rangnick after negotiations between the two parties came to an end.

The report states that the Rossoneri were unwilling to meet the German’s conditions, leading to talks being broken off.

Moretto adds that Rangnick had been waiting for a definitive response from the club and expected clarity by the end of the day.

Instead, Milan have decided not to proceed with the deal and will now continue evaluating alternative candidates.

The update could also have implications for the Austrian national team.

Moretto reports that the Austrian Football Federation had done everything possible to renew Rangnick’s contract, with uncertainty surrounding his future continuing while discussions with Milan were taking place.

Ralf Rangnick spent time in charge of Manchester United during the 2021/22 campaign.

He spent six months as interim manager.

Although his spell at Old Trafford was difficult, the experienced German has rebuilt his reputation on the international stage with Austria.

For now, though, a return to club football with AC Milan will not happen.

The Serie A giants remain on the hunt for a new manager, while Rangnick’s immediate future appears set to lie elsewhere after negotiations officially came to an end.

Ralf Rangnick non andrà al Milan.

Il club rossonero non apre alle condizioni del dirigente tedesco e la trattativa s’interrompe.

Rangnick aspettava una risposta definitiva entro la giornata di oggi.
